Artist's Description
British Rail Class 47 Diesel No 47205 D1855 Electric Locomotive at the NLR
Type 4 Class 47 № 47205 (D1855)
The Class 47 is a Brush Traction design and 47205 is one of 512 examples built between 1962 and 1968. It is a class that has proven to be a very successful mixed traffic diesel locomotive.
These locomotives were built at Crewe Works and Brush's Falcon Works, Loughborough.
The Class 47s could be seen all over the railway network coping well with work ranging from a little light shunting around goods yards to the fastest express passenger trains running the length and breath of the British Isles.
Members of the class can still be seen working passenger and freight trains throughout the country.
47205 was purchased from C. F. Booths and arrived at the Northampton & Lamport Railway from Southampton Maritime on the 7th December 2004, after being withdrawn from mainline service by Freightliner.
