Ruston & Hornsby "Cromwell" 423 Army Diesel Shunter

This a third generation diesel shunter built for military use. It was built by Ruston & Hornsby Ltd and was one of 18 built between 1961 and 1963. The military classed tham as C3SA. Model 423 was named "Cromwell" (wks.no. RH 459518/1961 and was being phased out by the mid 1990's and were being sold off onto industrial use. The name Cromwell has local connections to the massive Kineton Military railway site; as within its boundaries liess Edge Hill; a famous battle site of the English Civil War.
